Ceremony/Celebration Lesson 6

Overview: Religion and ceremony play an integral part in the lives of people. Students will prepare a ceremony for the closing of the storyline.

Materials

  • Books, posters, video, slides
  • Nepali stories which include ceremonies
  • Documentary and fiction movies

Objectives

  • Students are expected to work in a group to prepare a celebration
  • Acquire knowledge of the culture
  • Identify religion of the region
  • Make generalizations

Procedure

The teacher asks the key question, "What kind of ceremonies do people have in their lives?

Again, use chart paper, record student responses, and accept all responses.

At this point the teacher instructs the students that they are going plan a celebration. The teacher gives the students the following criteria.

  • everyone will have a role
  • reason for the ceremony will be visible
  • there will be music or sounds
  • the entire class can participate in some way
  • Presentation of "Play" is 5-10 minutes.

Groups are them given class time this day, before the day of presentations. Students will need time to work on costumes, props and practice lines at home.

Concluding the Lesson: Students present their Ceremonies.

Extending the Lesson-Invite students’ families or another class to the celebrations.

Assessing Students Learning-Evaluate each Celebration for covering the criteria.
